Movember: My Mo Blog For 2009

Movember Blog... Movemblog?

That's right, Movemblog! Or just Blog if you insist on not speaking gibberish.

Here is my one month journey in 2009 where I raised money for the men's charity: Movember.

Enjoy!

Day One - Sunday 1st November 2009

Movember the First: Clean ShavenSleep in until 11am. Hit the shower and get ready for a full on face shave. I'm using King of Shaves fancy pants magnetic shaving gel - apparently it helps the hair stick to the razor through magnetism, resulting in a closer shave. My razor is my trusty Wilkinson Sword Quattro Titanium. 5 blades I think. That'll get rid of that darn facial hair!

Done and dusted, face smoother than a clean-shaven baby's bottom.

Day Two - Monday 2nd November 2009

It's Monday morning, how great can it be? I have to go to work, but I'm in a bit of a rush. Don't have time to shave. No problem, not much there, just don't make a habit of it. I've got a moustache to grow!

Day Three - Tuesday 3rd November 2009

I wake up with the alarm today, plenty of time for shaving. I have opted for the Hulk Hogan horseshoe moustache. Basically I leave the upper lip well alone, and allow the sides of the moustache grow down to my jawline. Carefully I shave my chin where my famous goatee usually sits. Careful now.

Day Four - Wednesday 4th November 2009

Got up. Went to work. Ate. Drank. Grew Moustache. Slept.

Day Five - Thursday 5th November 2009

Today I went to a going away party at a local pub. No other moustaches to be seen. On men OR women. I'm feeling like not many people know about Movember - so I educate them! Education with Guinness in the pub. Like it.

Day Six - Friday 6th November 2009

Off to Manchester to get drunk this weekend. Cleanly shaved around the Mo, its starting to show now. It doesn't suit me, I look like one of those anorak-librarian-trainspotter serial killers. Maybe I am? I don't think I am, but we'll see.

Day Seven - Saturday 7th November 2009

Hungover and hungry, I wander around Manchester central with my drinking mate. One man with a moustache, the other with a mullet. What on earth do we look like?

Day Eight - Sunday 8th November 2009

One week in. Hungover again. The moustache is really starting to come in now. It really does not suit me at all! I hope people appreciate the effort I am putting in here: please continue the donations here: Donation Page. Back to London tonight, bringing the moustache with me.

Day Nine - Monday 9th November 2009

Back at work for another week. Joy. People have started to approach me to ask about the progress of the mo. One week in, how good can it be? It really doesn't suit me, and to top it off - only one person made a donation from my entire office! Not good I say - more donations to Movember please! Donate here!

Day Ten - Tuesday 10th November 2009

Movember 10thNed Flanders here I come. How funny that now I am growing a soup strainer that I unconsciously decide to eat soup for the second day in a row. Moustache was a bit lop-sided today, I had to even it out. Also the horseshoe wasn't working as there were too many gaps so that bottom part went as well. Only 20 days to go!

Day Eleven - Wednesday 11th November 2009

Eating a bacon and egg bap this morning for breakfast. Get flour and egg all in my moustache. How do people cope with these every day? Man it's annoying! I hope those Movember Mo-bros and Mo-sistas appreciate it!

Day Twelve - Thursday 12th November 2009

So I'm at a weekly meeting that I regularly have to attend, and I notice all the bizarre looks that I have been getting recently. Yes it's a moustache, you've never seen one?
Later in the meeting I explain that I won't be there next week as I'll be in Berlin, and one of the colleagues decides this is a fine time to ask "Are you growing a moustache so you'll fit in with the Germans?" "No," I explain "it's for a charity called MOVEMBER!"

Day Thirteen - Friday 13th November 2009

Friday the 13th today, not that I believe in that stuff. Moustache doesn't believe in it either. It just sits there, slowly growing. Slowly, slowly. Growing and making me look like a nutcase at the same time. What a life.

Day Fourteen - Saturday 14th November 2009

Looking around Regent Street for a new winter coat today followed by a trip to Westminster Abbey. Moustache grew slightly.

Day Fifteen - Sunday 15th November 2009

Went to Gordon Ramsay's York and Albany restaurant for lunch. Got remoulade in my moustache while eating the gravlax. Tut tut that just won't do!

Day Sixteen - Monday 16th November 2009

Back at work for another week - no! Only 3 days this week, as I'm off to Berlin on Thursday. People are still approaching me about the moustache. Saying I should dye it so it sticks out more. No, no, it's against the Movember rules I say. Who the hell would dye their moustache?

Day Seventeen - Tuesday 17th November 2009

Payday today! Maybe now some people will donate a bit more than they did before! Donate here!

Day Eighteen - Wednesday 18th November 2009

All set for Berlin, got my moustache ready - apparently it will help me fit in there according to some people at my work. That's just what I need, people coming up to me speaking German. "Kein Deutsche! Kein Deutsche!" is what I'll say. "Ich habe Moustache!"

Day Nineteen - Thursday 19th November 2009 through to Day Twenty-Two - Sunday 22nd November 2009

Movember 20th in BerlinFour days in Berlin, it was fantastic! Lots of beer, lots of meat and sausages. I kept getting beer froth in the moustache. Must be something that Germans are used to, being famous moustache wearers. I had a look for some moustache wax, but they don't seem to sell it anymore. How times have changed.

Day Twenty-Three - Monday 23rd November 2009

Back in London, back at work. Moustache going strong. Movember reckon that I will be attached to my moustache by now, and to be honest I slightly am. I never though I'd ever say that! One week to go now... will I have trouble in shaving it off?

Day Twenty-Four - Tuesday 24th November 2009

On the home stretch! Moustache was getting a bit too long again so I had to trim it slightly to stop it getting in my mouth. I really don't understand the appeal of having one permanently! Movember is the only occasion for me.

Day Twenty-Five - Wednesday 25th November 2009

Had a bit of a sore back last night. It couldn't be from the weight of the moustache could it? No. Definitely not. Surely not? Could it?

Day Twenty-Six - Thursday 26th November 2009

Movember time's almost up! I have to say it's been fun but I am looking forward to shaving off the mo. It's a good time for me to replace my razor and shaving cream for that fresh December face.

Day Twenty-Seven - Friday 27th November 2009

Only a few days to go! The final weekend is upon us, Monday will be show the end of the Mo. I hope we've all raised a lot of money this year and beaten last years results by a long shot!

Day Twenty-Eight - Saturday 28th November 2009

So tired today, I'm just going to sit in at home and do nothing. Moustache feels the same way. We're so alike. Need to trim it AGAIN but since Movember will be gone in a couple of days, there's no point. And so I wait.

Day Twenty-Nine - Sunday 29th November 2009

Spent today at the pub pretty much. Nice Sunday roast, a couple of pints, a good book and the company of the wife. Not to mention the moustache. How happy we will both be after tomorrow is gone - the last day of Movember!

Day Thirty - Monday 30th November 2009

Movember 30th - The End!Well, that's the end of that! I have to say it has been fun, well done to everyone who made it this far. Shame on the people who gave up, but if they raised money then does it really matter whether they went through with it? I shall be taking the final photo of the Mo tonight and adding it here. Then tomorrow will be time to hack it all off and give myself a great shave. Read about how to give yourself a great shave here: How to Shave Your Face
